Local engagement

DølaJazz aims to engage the Lillehammer community by providing a musical and social boost in the autumn. Every year, many participants are activated to make the festival happen, which not only offers musical experiences but also social and economic relationships that contribute to activity and a sense of belonging to the city. We have offerings for all generations. Through kindergarten and secondary school concerts we reach the young, while the cultural cane concerts reach many of those living in institutions.

Volunteers
DølaJazz is a volunteer organization with a working, unpaid board. Every year, around 100 volunteers are involved in the execution of the festival. These volunteers have a reputation for being hospitable and solution-oriented vis-à-vis the audience, thus contributing to the festival’s “unique style and atmosphere.” Being a volunteer creates a bond with others. In recent years, DølaJazz has actively sought to recruit immigrants as volunteers so that they have natural forums to interact with Norwegians – both at work, in first aid courses, and at volunteer gatherings.

Life and bustle
One of DølaJazz’s goals is to create life, excitement, and color in the city. The festival does this through its ‘festival elements’ (banners, installations, posters, etc.) in Storgata and in front of Kulturhuset Banken. In addition, a colorful parade is held through the city. The business community also contributes by participating in the ‘window display competition’ and by hanging up posters in shop windows.

Local performers
DølaJazz offers a varied program featuring the best of Norwegian jazz, sprinkled with some high-class international performers. But we also offer a stage for local performers – whether it’s students from Create participating in our open stage for youth, or playing in the Lillehammer Big Band performing at one of our free concerts. In 2026, we have a special initiative where we connect a local music corps with one (or more) professional performers who will perform during the festival.

Sponsors and business community
DølaJazz is only partially financed through ticket sales. The main income comes from the Arts Council, Innlandet County Municipality, Lillehammer Municipality, and our sponsors. The sponsors vary in their contributions. Some contribute to the festival through a larger or smaller amount to the festival in general, while others finance specific initiatives such as the talent award or other parts of our talent development program.
