Festival Exhibition 2026

True to tradition, DølaJazz collaborates with Galleri Zink on the festival exhibition. 

Per Ove Sødal lives in Southern Norway and spends much of his time by the sea. Remote coastal outposts, fishing villages, and boathouses occupy a central place in his visual universe.

There is music in Sødal’s paintings. Not always the harmonious music that seeks perfection, but rather a music that listens to the dissonances of existence, to what is uneven, unfinished, and vulnerable. In this way, there is also a connection to jazz: the tension between form and freedom, between the familiar and what emerges in the moment. Some things are left open, unresolved, like a note that does not immediately seek resolution.

At the same time, the paintings possess a distinctive sense of stillness. A stillness that allows human vulnerability to come into view. In the tension between sea and sky, light and darkness, absence and presence, an opening emerges toward that which lies beyond language: the imperfect and the deeply human, that which is true.

Perhaps this is precisely where visual art and jazz meet: in allowing the unspoken to find its voice.

The exhibition opens on Saturday, October 10th, at 13:00 PM with musical performances by Jan Andresen and Herman Schultz.
