Majken Christiansen kvintett

Majken Christiansen kvintett at Mikrobryggeriet!

22.08.2025

Majken Christiansen sings revitalized jazz in the tradition of the great jazz divas, where Ella Fitzgerald will always be one of the greatest sources of inspiration. But Majken does her things with an open and updated expression, and no matter what she sings, she interprets and conveys the timeless texts and melodies from The American Songbook with warmth, honesty, and conviction.

Majken Christiansen is an established jazz singer from Denmark who, since moving from Copenhagen to Oslo in 2001, has released five albums in her own name. Majken is a strong communicator and a frequently used soloist, best known for singing American standards in everything from duo to big band and orchestra format. In 2024, she released for the first time an album where she sings in her native language, Danish: The Great Danish Songbook – Danish Pearls in Jazz Version.

The Great Danish Songbook is a jazz album consisting of Danish classics from the 1930s to the 1960s. The title has a parallel to the concept of The Great American Songbook and is a small pun that modestly equates Danish songs with American standards. The goal of the album is to present delightful melodies from the Danish song treasure, in a rearranged mainstream and swing jazz tradition.
