Pianist Arne Torvik from Molde has long been an important figure in the music scene of northwestern Norway, but is also a name making an impact on the international stage. In the spring of 2021, the Arne Torvik Trio released the album Northwestern Songs on Losen Records, an album that, after its release, spread widely among audiences in the digital world, well supported by a broad selection of international playlists. The release has also received high praise from international reviewers, including positive reviews in All About Jazz and the Canadian magazine Textura.
A few years after the debut came the release Songs for Roman (2024), an album that showed a trio still developing and with clear direction – The music stands as clear examples of what happens when a musical collaboration is allowed to develop and mature over time – and so too with the compositions.
Both on record and on stage, Torvik is joined by bassist Bjørnar Kaldefoss Tveite (Hullyboo, Karoline Wallace) from Voss, who, in addition to depth and wonderful rhythm, also possesses great lyrical qualities. On drums, the imaginative drummer Øystein Aarnes Vik (Masåva, Henriette Eilertsen Trio) contributes with dynamic playing rich in nuance.
