Bankhvelv // JazzIncubator

Bankvelv consists of Heidi Kvelvane on accordion/saxophone and Symre Taugbøl Bang on Hardanger fiddle/guitar. We have immersed ourselves in traditional music from Western Norway, where we first learn the tunes traditionally on Hardanger fiddle and accordion before transferring and arranging them for guitar and saxophone.

With this approach, we find that we have the capacity to improvise and interpret without losing touch with the original tune.

We came together at the jazz program in Bergen and got a kickstart when we won the competition "Jazz i sikte" in 2023, which led to a concert at Nattjazz and the Bergen International Festival. Since then, we have played a lot together, at both competitions, DNT cabins, local museums, and improvised jazz stages.

JazzIncubator is an event by and with young people. Here, young musicians take the stage, and it is students in 'Marketing and Management of Tourism Experiences' and 'Tourism Management' who organize it. In addition to the concerts being experienced live, they are also produced for TV by students at the TV school. The musicians come from all over Norway and occasionally from other countries, while the organizers and producers study at the Inland Norway University of Applied Sciences in Lillehammer. JazzIncubator has been part of DølaJazz since 2003. Several of the bands have later appeared as established artists at DølaJazz and at other festivals.
