Raknes only plays double bass, but makes it sound like a whole band. With fingerpicking, effects, and looping, he builds everything from subtle soundscapes to driving grooves, while Wilhelmsen’s voice weaves around, over, and through the soundscape with playfulness and precision. Their interplay is intuitive, fun, and unpredictable—a free flow of musical abundance. The repertoire consists of Raknes’ own songs from the Stillhouse series—Chasing the Real Things, On the Road, Due and Drone, TID—and handpicked interpretations of, among others, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, and Depeche Mode. The common thread is honesty, musicality, and stories that resonate. Stillhouse Duo is known as one of the country’s best live bands, with a rare ability to communicate with the audience—genuine, spontaneous, and with infectious joy of playing.
